Fare and Square as you see it today started as two separate brands launched by two female founders. What they shared in common was their purpose:
food and family
Shannon B. (co-founder) found her passion for cooking while researching ways to alleviate symptoms of autism for her two boys. During this process, a true love for combining different foods began. She found simple pleasure in putting food on the table that not only tasted and looked great – but could improve the quality of someone's life.
As her boys grew older and could actually prepare their own meals, she pursued launching her own business to provide others with the same wholesome, made-from-scratch meals that she provided her own family. And in 2014, she launched Bentos!
3 years later, Crystal F. (co-founder) was motivated to launch a similar concept but for very different reasons. Crystal loved her job in Corporate America, but was in search of services to help simplify her life. As a wife and mother of three, time had become the ultimate luxury.
She loved her family, but didn’t love to cook and found that most services provided ingredients but left the hard work to their end customer. Inspired to simplify her life and to help others, she launched Fare and Square in May 2016.
Both Bentos and Fare and Square operated out of The Commissary – a local incubator for food start-ups where both founders connected and explored what a future together could look like.
After some lengthy discussions, the two decided to join forces – merging teams and brands to launch the new Fare and Square in March 2017. From here, Shannon will take the lead role, giving Crystal the opportunity to continue a career as a Marketing Leader in the Corporate arena.
These two female founders realized the two of them could do more together than either of them could do alone.
None of this would have been possible without our amazing teams, The Commissary, our families support and the thousands of local customers who have allowed us to serve them each and every week.
